Vanessa De Hoog
Vanessa is an elementary school teacher. She has competed in cross-country and track at the varsity level for Queen's University and recently completed the Boston Marathon. As a founder of the Kanata Mavericks she hopes to use running as a catalyst for a generation of kids to develop resilience, build community, and challenge themselves both on and off the track. When Vanessa isn’t running herself, she can be found enjoying an espresso, playing the piano, reading a new book, or getting groans from her terrible delivery of puns.
Melanie McGee is an elementary teacher. Her career background working with students who have Autism and developmental disabilities has allowed her to develop an incomparable skill set. Her ability to connect and understand what kids need make her a valuable coach and support for the Kanata Mavericks. As a child she discovered that achieving personal goals in running was both empowering and motivating. She has been running ever since. When she isn’t teaching or running she is playing with her dog, taking a yoga class, or trying a new recipe.
